Find out more about our lead climbing courses
Lead climbing, also called ‘sport climbing’, is a form of roped climbing where the climber leads up the wall, making themselves safe by attaching the rope to quickdraws as they make their way up a route, also known as getting on the sharp end!
This form of climbing gives you more freedom to move around without being constricted by the rope, but it also means that if you fall above a clip, you’ll ‘free-fall’ a very short distance before the rope catches you on the clip. For this reason, it’s really important to learn the techniques of lead climbing with a professional before you try it out independently.
During our Step Up to Lead courses, we’ll teach you everything you need to know in order to be a safe lead climber – and don’t worry, we’ll give you fall practice too, so you’re fully prepared for every event!
